#4: up high

Sun on a tent in the morning is always a joy knowing that, in an environment such as this, navigation will be easier and our short breaks between hauling may be slightly less frigid. Sometimes we can’t avoid skiing into the giant shadows cast by mountains and either shiver or smile when crossing into dark or light. The kilometre before reaching the terminal moraine saw us on bare ice, which surprisingly turned slushy forcing us to make a detour. Polar bear tracks also keep us on high alert. Finally we reached Rabot glacier and started the hefty climb onto an exposed area called Nordmannsfonna. True to form a strong wind from the west now has us pinned in our tents, stoves choofing, banter flowing, food warming and sleep coming. The pics tell our story perfectly. Eric
