Activity: 2.2.1 Geological timelines

As humans we are familiar with a timescale measured in days, months and years. The geological timescale is used to measure the age of the earth. It uses units as small as a million years; a length of time almost impossible to imagine.

On the playground mark out a distance of 46m. Use pegs and signs to mark out key events since the beginning of time. Use a scale of 1cm equals 1 million years.

The Cape Roberts project aims to recover rocks between 30 and more than 100 million years ago.
