Global Extremes:Mt Everest - Iceland Sector

From September 2002 to March 2003 Eric worked as host and consultant on the US Global Extremes:Mt Everest adventure film series. Eric worked in Moab and Aspen as a host and selector then, after a series of eliminations in Costa Rica and the Kalahari, took the nine remaining athletes to various locations in Iceland. The first week was spent at various locations around Isafjordur in the West Fiordlands. Athletes stayed with local families and experienced fishing, sheep farming and power-line maintenance, spiced with ice-climbing and ski touring. The second week was spent at Skaftafel where they ice climbed on local glacier seracs and learned traction kiting. The week culminated with a ski onto Hvannadalshnukur, Iceland's highest peak, situated on the Vatnajokull icecap. A fierce blizzard kept the teams tent-bound for 3 day within 100m of the summit. The third week was a ski traverse in the Landmannalaugar region, including a crossing of the Myrdalsjokull icecap. Eric, together with Everest veteran Russell Brice, selected the final five that went on to Everest. Of those, two reached the summit. The series was made for Outdoor Life Network in America.
