North Pole Explorer takes the best of Arctic adventuring and condenses it into three days of fun and excitement. Two helicopter flights, a night at Ice Station Borneo, a short ski to the North Pole and camping a night at the top of the world makes up the ultimate combo.

We meet in Svalbard’s capital Longyearbyen, on the island of Spitsbergen (Norway). After preparations and outfitting you with your Polar Clothing and Equipment Pack, we fly 2.5 hours by Antonov-74 aircraft to Ice Station Barneo. Landing at Ice Camp Barneo in the heart of the Arctic Ocean, you will have your first taste of this enigmatic region; the place where ice dominates the landscape; where the skies are blessed with 24-hour daylight; the point at which so much exploration history rests.

At Barneo we set up our expedition tents for our first night on the ice, followed by lunch in the dining tent. The afternoon is yours. Either relax in the hospitality of the station or get outside for a host of options – ski touring in the Borneo vicinity, viewing the aircraft activity, photography… Dinner is followed by an evening of conversation and merriment. Meet explorers, guides, scientists and pilots from all over the world, each with their own tales of derring-do. The following day, after final preparations, we fly in the Mi-8 helicopter 35 minutes to within 3-5km of the North Pole from where we begin our ski trek across the Arctic ice. We have the whole afternoon to negotiate the terrain ahead, which may include pressure ridges, open water and drifting ice. Arriving at the North Pole after a few hours, we celebrate our achievement then set up the most northerly camp in the world. Spirits are high and there is much opportunity for a satellite call to family or friends, photography, building a snowman or looking for Santa!

The next day we are collected by chopper and return to Barneo where we celebrate our success with champagne and lunch in the mess tent. We board the AN-74 and return to Longyearbyen to transfer to your hotel.

North Pole Explorer is designed for those short on time but high on adventure. Three days on the Arctic ice, with tastes of every facet of North Pole exploration, is the ultimate combination for the polar novice.
